Plumesは真空管で得られる歪みを作れる様に設計された、誰でも一度は通るであろう”あの”ペダルを元に開発されました。この特定の回路は開発し尽くされていますが、EarthQuaker Devicesがこの皆さんに愛されているペダルの回路を当社独自の解釈を注入し、この音をさらに別の次元で楽しめる様に開発しました。

まずはじめに。あの神聖なるICの領域4558と定番のBJTトランジスターバッファから敢えて距離を置いて、JFETを採用しインプットのインピーダンスを10メガオーム近くまで引き上げました！これにより、ノイズの低減を可能に、入力されたオリジナルの信号を安定させる効果を得られ、さらなる高域の響きを得る事に成功しました。入力された9Vの電源は内部で+/– 9Vに変換されオペアンプへの電源供給がされます。これで通常より高いヘッドルームを得る事を可能にしています。この結果、サウンドにはよりクリアで３次元感が加わりつつ、使用している真空管アンプを力強くプッシュします。
使用する機材の組み合わせによってこのペダルの使い方を変えられる様に、３種類のクリッピングモードの選択ができます。Mode 1はSymmetrical（対称）ダイオードでPlumesでは一番歪みの得られるモードになり、クリーンに設定されたアンプとの組み合わせでは、黒のトーレックスとゴールドパイピングの定番ブリティッシュアンプの様な歪みが得られます。すでに歪んでいるアンプとの兼用では貴方のアンプで今まで聞いた事のない様なダーティーな歪みが得られるでしょう。Mode 2はクリーンブーストのモードで、信号はクリッピングダイオードに入らずオペアンプの歪みになります。Mode 3はAsymmetrical（非対称）のシリコンダイオードを使用した歪み。Plumesで”スクリーマー”の歪みに一番近い物になりますが、オリジナルの物より出力が大きく音のクリアさが格段に高い物になっており、トランスペアレント系の歪みペダルで聞かれる様なクリーントーンが若干歪んだ音に混ざっている様な感じの歪みです。このモードも暖かい低音のレスポンスが特徴で低い出力で使用することによって、アンプにも耳にも優しい音を作る事ができます。バンドの中で使用しても誰もがこのギターの音を楽しめる様な定番の音を得る事が可能でしょう。
